Plot: Rome, 1870. The city is still under papal rule but is about to become the capital of Italy. Teresa is a greengrocer whose husband has been imprisoned with many other political prisoners accused of plotting against the Church's power. In the name of her husband Augusto and son Mario, she becomes the leader of a group of women who want to free their husbands from the papal prisons. It is one of four TV films – the longest and most ambitious – with which A. Magnani bid farewell to the public.
