Plot: In Milan, a beautiful twenty-five-year-old woman, Donatella Berzaghi, who is mentally disabled, suddenly disappears. Duca Lamberti (Frank Wolff), the police officer leading the investigation, fears that the young woman has fallen into prostitution. A prostitute, whom Duca has taken into his home hoping to persuade her to talk, finally gives him a clue to track down Donatella's kidnappers. At the same time, however, the father of the disappeared young woman (Raf Vallone) has also arrived, investigating on his own, to identify the culprits. When Duca arrives to arrest them, he finds three corpses. Berzaghi has taken justice into his own hands. Tessari's film, conducted with a skillful crescendo of tension, is based on the novel "I milanesi ammazzano il sabato" (The Milanese Kill on Saturday) – hence one of its two titles, along with "La morte risale a ieri sera" (Death Occurred Last Night) – by Giorgio Scerbanenco, a bleak giallo set in an autumnal and foggy Milan.
